What up World? Been a hot minute since I decided to blow the dust off the keyboard, but one thing I realized when analyzing the albums that I enjoyed most in 2016 was that there has been no shortage of great music that’s been made available to the insatiable broke Hip Hop enthusiast.
From Curren$y and Alchemist revisiting their chemistry to pull off the “Carrollton Heist” to Meyhem Lauren’s serving of a delicious entree in “Piatto D’Oro” to the out of nowhere grouping of Joell Ortiz, Bodega Bamz, Nitty Scott MC & Salaam Remi to form (the inexplicably named) ‘No Panty’ that took us on a journey along 12th Ave with “Westside Highway Story” to Fabolous putting a silver lining on the term drive-by with his new installment on “Summertime Shootout 2” to the Christmas present that is Run The Jewels presenting their 3rd offering with “RTJ3” as the gift that keeps on giving.
From Napoleon da Legend asking you to “Steal This Mixtape” and this one “Too” to Griselda Records loading up Conway The Machine to let off his “50 Round Drum” (Doot-doot-doot-doot) to Lloyd Banks deciding it was time to go “All or Nothing: Live It Up” to Hus Kingpin’s invitation to his remodeled “House of Kingpin (The Revamp Edition)” it’s quite the understatement that 2016 was a generous year in freebies.
There is also no shortage of people that still tell me they only listen to rap from the 90s, which leads me to 2 immediate conclusions: 1. They still love a sound that they fell in love with ages ago and 2. They don’t know where to find it in this day and age.
Well fear not. Your mansnthem (aka me) has returned to make some form of productivity out of his (my) own obsessive compulsive digging habits to find you the most worthy Hip Hop to fill up your phone in them otherwise empty pockets of yours. I only post shit that the artists have dropped on the world for free or a “name your own price” tool. Visit every now and then for your listening pleasure with a guilt free conscience.
